PHD China appoints new digital lead

SHANGHAI – Ali Zein Kazmi has been appointed by PHD as its digital director to be based in Shanghai and responsible for all aspects of the network’s Unilever portfolio of brands in China.

The appointment commences with effect from today.

“I am very proud to be part of the PHD network. I have heard so much about this dynamic agency and its culture of being a challenger brand,” said Kazmi. “I am looking forward to be working with the team at a time when digital media communications is playing an ever more critical role in the success of clients’ business plans.”

Kazmi will report to Mark Heap, managing director of PHD China. “We are pleased to have Ali on board. His knowledge of the digital landscape in China will definitely add value to our delivery in terms of client strategic communication planning service, as well as capitalising maximum market opportunities to drive business results,” said Mark.

Kazmi has over 10 years' experience in digital communication and business development in China. He started his career during the dotcom era and later transitioned into digital communications.

Prior to joining PHD, he worked on blue-chip brands such as Pernod Ricard’s Chivas, Martell Noblige and Absolut, Nokia and Nike. He was born in Saudi Arabia, raised in Southeast Asia, Europe and South America.

He has lived in China for 14 years and is a self-taught Mandarin speaker. He also speaks four other languages including English, German, Spanish and Urdu.
