As part of the partnership, Aktiv will be responsible for monetising ad units on the Real Player software, which is the first mainstream media player to enable downloading, recording, editing and sharing of digital video.
"What impressed us about the Aktiv offering and got us interested with them, was the scale of their sales teams on the ground across APAC and their existing relations with FMCG and entertainment brands, furthermore we are excited about the launch of their China office," said Ho Chang, Real Networks' Asia GM.
The client called for an open pitch earlier this summer and announced the result this month.
"We're exciting to be working with Real Networks, as it helps to satisfy our demand for true entertainment media" says Asim Rehman, Aktiv Digital channel manager.
Rehman added that as the market is growing, advertisers are increasing their media adspend, but Real Player is facing competition from Window's Media Player and Apple's Quicktime.
Part of Asia Digital Holdings, Aktiv Digital was established in 2007 with the opening of its Singapore headquarters. The appointment follows the company's decision to move their headquarters from Singapore to Japan.
Aktiv currently works with leading advertising clients including Nike, Nokia, HP, Buena Vista, Emirates, MasterCard and HSBC, as well as localised brands like Air Asia, StarHub, Maxis, Astro and DBS.
