VP global media, APAC & Africa
Unilever

Returning member

Responsible for many of Unilever’s fastest-growing markets across Asia-Pacific and Africa, David Porter wields enormous influence over agencies and media owners on behalf of the consumer goods giant and its multitude of brands. Over the past year, Porter has worked with his media team to drive Unilever’s pivot towards data-driven marketing by setting up digital hubs in most markets.

Always eager to reinforce Unilever’s strong commitment to brand purpose, Porter has brought it to bear on the digital ecosystem by setting standards and building alliances to make the digital world safer and more accountable for brands and for the public. Elevated to the position of vice-president for APAC at the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) this year, Porter has promoted the WFA’s Digital Charter and worked with other brands, agency groups and digital partners to advance the work of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media.

Having spent 25 years in media agencies in the UK before coming to Asia in 2004 and then six years with GroupM/Mindshare prior to joining Unilever in 2010, Porter knows the value of industry recognition and works to set higher standards for media campaigns. A regular contributor at marketing industry events, he not only serves as APAC chair of the Mobile Marketing Association but is also chair of the 2020 Effies and served as jury president for creative effectiveness at Spikes Asia in 2019.
