Twitter surpassed the 100 million user mark, recording growth of 82 per cent since the start of the year. The milestone comes on the heels of an announcement by the company that it would be expanding its sponsored Tweets service to include promotional Tweets from brands that users don’t actually follow themselves.
Former social networking site Friendster recorded an increase of over half a millions new users since its relaunch as a social gaming platform in mid-2011. Currently, over 90 per cent of Friendster’s users are Asia-based with its most popular games being ‘Boomz’ and ‘Dragon’s call’.

Singapore Airlines finally entered the social media space by taking over an unofficial Facebook page which was run by a passionate fan for several years, as well as launching a Twitter account. The airline will use the two platforms as communication and engagement tools with users, which agency TBWA provided consultations on.
