GE turns photos, videos into wind energy, clean water and solar power with digital initiative

General Electric partners with charities D.light Lighting Oecusse Project, Practical Action and Charity: Water to reach their goal of donating 4.8 million gallons of clean water, 1.7 million hours of solar power and 45,000 kilowatt hours of wind energy.

People are encouraged to upload their photos of wind, water and light on Flickr along. Through the Ecoimagination photo project, GE is taking the photos and turning it into action to provide clean water, solar power and wind energy for communities in developing countries.

For every upload in the wind category, GE will donate 4.5 kilowatt hours of wind energy, photos in the water category generate 480 gallons of clean water and light 175 hours of solar power.

The campaign is linked with Facebook and Twitter and lead by BBDO in partnership with SocialVibe and SpeedShape.

A video aspect of the campiagn is also launched on You Tube as part of GE’s five-year plan for the Ecomagination project. The ‘Ecomagination YouTube Video Challenge’ aims to reach 10 million views and donate clean and safe drinking water to developing nations.
