Even if you think that the 15 per cent jump in CCTV's airtime auction sales all looks a little too ideal, there is no hiding from the fact that Chinese companies are in a reasonably bullish mood.

The reasons are not difficult to gauge. After sitting out last year’s Olympics-inspired bonanza, the country’s SMEs are ready to spend again. While MNC advertisers are watching their pennies closely, China Inc cuts a rather more optimistic figure these days. A better indicator of the country’s advertising health is likely to come, instead, from next year’s auction.
