People's Daily affiliate Global Times to launch video-sharing service

BEIJING – Global Times, a daily newspaper focusing on international relations published by People’s Daily, is gearing up to launch its own video service next week, according to industry sources familiar with the newspaper.

The new video service will be hosted on the newspaper's website. Huanqiu.com. Ku6.com, one of the biggest video websites in China, will provide videos as a media partner.

Competition in the video-sharing market in China is getting white hot with Youku's IPO on Nasdaq in December.
