The Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur to open in July

The luxury hotel group makes its Malaysia debut with towering urban resort.

The Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur to open in July

Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur will be the first of four luxury hotel openings in Kuala Lumpur’s prized Golden Triangle district this summer when it opens as part of a mixed-use development on July 1.

Though its key count of 55 rooms and suites is on the small side for meeting and event planners, the sky-high venues mean there is still plenty to rejoice about.

The undoubted highlight will be Vertigo, the hotel’s 58th-floor rooftop bar with panoramic views across the city. It can host events for up to 150 people, with complete buy-outs available from Sunday through Wednesday with a minimum spend of RM60,000 (US$15,200). The menu offers South East Asian tapas, while mixologists can create personalised drinks or base a beverage menu for groups around a theme.

Horizon Grill on the floor below is also sure to impress delegates with its sleek interiors, open-air terrace, fresh seafood and premium steaks. The restaurant can host 140 people for breakfast, lunch or dinner as well as 10-30 diners in its two private dining rooms.

The chic poolside area on the 53rd floor is available for receptions of 30 people, again with those incredible views. Altitude is an all-day lounge on the same floor serving afternoon tea and wine after dark. There are also two boardrooms seating 12 and 16 respectively.

Guest rooms are located from the 54th to 56th floors and all include “oval soaking tubs” and floor-to-ceiling windows. For executive meetings and receptions, the 200-sqm duplex Banyan Tree Suite has double-height windows, an elegant dining room and plush entertaining space.

The hotel is located 2.6 kilometres south of the Petronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, 20 minutes on foot from Bukit Bintang via the pedestrian bridge, or 10 minutes by car. Like most downtown hotels in KL, it is 60 kilometres from the airport, and takes about one hour by car.

Also opening in the Golden Triangle this summer are the W Hotel Kuala Lumpur (168 rooms, 1,020 sqm of event space, opening July 1), Banyan Tree Pavilion (325 rooms, 1,300 sqm, August) and Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur (209 rooms, 1,820 sqm, mid-2018).
