Catcha Digital led by new CEO Alex Khan to handle TripAdvisor across APAC

KUALA LUMPUR - Media sales shop Catcha Digital has been appointed as the exclusive sales representative for TripAdvisor across Asia-Pacific, following a management overhaul including the appointment of former Aktiv Digital CEO Alex Khan.

The agency is charged with selling all advertising on the site and developing regional and international campaigns for advertisers.

The appointment, effective immediately, sees Catcha operating across TripAdvisor’s sites in Asia-Pacific: TripAdvisor.com, TripAdvisor.jp, TripAdvisor.in, TripAdvisor.com.au and DaoDao.com, it’s domain in China.

According to Comscore, TripAdvisor attracts more than 32 million unique users a month and more than 15 million registered members.

The news comes after Catcha Digital underwent a management overhaul, with key executives joining the Malaysian-based sales house from Aktiv Digital.

In January, Alex Khan (pictured), the former CEO of Aktiv Digital, resurfaced as CEO of Catcha Digital. At the same time, former sales manager at Aktiv Digital Simon Barnett joined Catcha as sales director and Gerard Whitty, Aktiv’s former senior account manager, became Catcha’s sales manager.

News of Khan’s departure from Aktiv – a company he helped launch two years earlier – surfaced in August. This news came the same week that sister company dgmAsia announced the departure of CEO Fionn Hyndman after eight years at the search and affiliate marketing company.

Both dgmAsia and Aktiv Digital are divisions of British holding company Asia Digital Holdings, formerly known as Deal Group Media.

Catcha Digital currently has offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, Khan said. The company launched through a partnership between Microsoft and Catcha Media Group and further handles the regional accounts for entities including iProperty.
