Creative Q&A: Euro RSCG's Kevin Pereira is in the hot seat

How did you get into advertising?
Once upon a time I met a guy who knew a guy in advertising and he helped me put a spec book together. I then walked the streets of Singapore looking for an internship.

What was your first ever ad?
It was an embarrassingly crap recruitment ad for Citibank.

Which ad do you wish you’d made?
VW Polo – “Have you ever noticed how protected you feel when you make yourself small”.

What was your worst job ever?

Part-time job at a steel recycling plant when I was 16.

What qualities do you look for in a prospective employee?
Someone with an opinion, a well-worn passport and no ego.

What does it take to impress you?
Humility. Originality. Kindness. Manners.

Where do you go to be inspired?
Anywhere there’s no laptop, iPhone or email.

Who do you consider to be a creative genius?
Shakespeare. His works are still being copied over 400 years later.

If you were not working in advertising, where would you work?
I’d be an F1 driver.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Lying on the couch eating salt and vinegar chips dipped in yoghurt.

What would you like to be in a next life?
The Silver Surfer.

What is your favourite word?
Sarcastic.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Hit the snooze button.

Worst haircut you’ve ever had?
A mullet in 1984 and a perm in 1986.

What’s your favourite song lyric?
“You never do what you know you oughta. Something tells me you're a Devil's daughter…Sorrow…sorrow”.
