tvN K-Pop Star Hunt, which consists of multiple phases and culminates with a grand finale live event that will reveal the competition’s winner, kicked off with the launch of a new tvN K-Pop Star Hunt: CUBE Audition website. K-Pop fans between the ages of 11-29 in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand will have until 25 September to upload their best song-and-dance routines for a chance to participate in the next stage of the competition.

100 candidates from each market will be selected by tvN and Cube Entertainment. From the 500 selected candidates, only 10 will qualify for the final stage of the competition, based on auditions conducted in the five markets.

The final 10 contestants will then be flown to Korea for the most arduous stage of the competition: The live, reality-show-style elimination rounds. The final stage of the competition will be broadcast as a tvN original series in December 2011, where Asia’s favorite K-Pop artists will guest star as mentors, judges and performers.

FIC says it has become the first major pay-TV network in Asia to produce original entertainment show in a talent hunt format, with scripts and production all mastered by FIC and its partners CJ Media, broadcaster; and Cube Entertainment, entertainment production company.

“Audiences in the region crave entertainment content that was developed specifically for Asia, by Asia and in Asia,” said Joon Lee, senior vice president, content and communication and general manager, Korea ifor FIC.

tvN K-Pop Star Hunt will make its Asia debut exclusively on tvN, Asia’s leading entertainment channel for Korean culture as well as on Star World and Channel [V] International. FIC estimates it will reach over 550 million people.
