Golf's Australia Open appoints World Sport Group

SYDNEY - Golf Australia has appointed World Sport Group as the promoter of the Australian Open for the next six years.

The 2009 Australian Open, with a prize purse of US$1.5 million, will be held in December, and World Sport Group has also contracted Australia’s leading golf promoter, TRP Sports, as event organiser for the same period.

Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt said he was pleased that World Sport Group would “assist us in taking the tournament to viewers around the world”.

Andrew Georgiou, chief operating officer, World Sport Group, added: “With [Golf Australia] and the support of the PGA of Australia, China Golf Association, Korea Golf Association and Korea Golf Tour, we are ready to build this event into a truly international tournament.”
