The BBC is the only British distributor to partner with Hulu in Japan so far. The arrangement means that Hulu will distribute the largest range of BBC Worldwide content on any platform in the market.

The content will include drama, comedy, music, lifestyle, natural history, science, and history programming and noteworthy titles such as Doctor Who, Walking with Dinosaurs, Top Gear, and the Absolutely Fabulous 20th Anniversary Specials.

Joyce Yeung, general manager and senior vice-president of BBC Worldwide sales and distribution in Asia, said in a statement that the agreement would “open up a new audience” for the BBC Worldwide portfolio.

US-based Hulu launched in Japan in September, in its first venture outside of its home market. The company recently appointed Wieden + Kennedy Tokyo for creative duties.
