The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) held 1,189 events this year to-date (until 31 October 2018) that have brought in over 1.85 million participants and contributed RM788mil (US$188mil) in economic impact to the country. Out of those events, the centre also recorded a high in association meetings, 11 of which were European.

Some of these included the Girls Not Brides Global Meeting 2018, International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) Asia Conference & Showcase 2018, International Rubber Conference 2018, and Union of International Associations (UIA) Associations Round Table Asia-Pacific 2018.

The centre also hosted the World Urban Forum that brought in 22,000 delegates over the course of a week. Convened by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the event saw the venue gazetted by the UN and treated as a ‘sovereign’ space, much like a global UN headquarter is.

“It is encouraging to see that our engagement programme with our international association clients is delivering consistent value to them,” said Alan Pryor, general manager for KLCC. “We are especially looking forward to showcasing Malaysia as an ideal and very affordable business events destination, and sharing our latest developments, including our brand new 11,000 sqm expansion, which opens mid next year.”

Recently, the centre announced a partnership with US-based Marketing Challenges International (MCIntl), a global destination marketing firm for meetings and conventions. The reason behind the partnership is to “drive the venue’s presence and business opportunities in the North America market”.
