The Malaysian International Trade & Exhibition Centre (Mitec) has recently signed an MoU with the Guangdong Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center (Gicec) to jointly promote and support exchange in business leads related to trade and public shows.

Gunther Beissel, CEO of Mitec, noted that China remains a key target market for Malaysia and that the latter is well positioned as a halal hub. Mitec has gained prominence in the local events scene despite having just opened in August 2017.

"Collaborations between the both countries in the business events industry is not unusual, but ours is the first centre-to-centre partnership," said Beissel. "This partnership will enable both parties to explore each other's best practices through flexibile, innovation and value-added solutions for the industry," he added.

Meanwhile, Gicec is positioned within the Greater Bay Area, a key development project of the Chinese government that includes the recently launched 142-km high speed rail from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.

Joey Panther, CEO of Gicec, said the centre serves as a gateway to China, and that the collaboration will benefit the supply chains of both venues through the sharing of technical know-hows.
