Mode2 launches clean-technology communications service

HONG KONG - Independent strategic communications agency Mode2 is launching a specialised service focusing on growing demand in Asia for PR functions surrounding clean technology and the clean energy sector.

Mode2 launches clean-technology communications service

"There's a huge opportunity now, because everyone is waking up to the fact that we really need to do something about sustainability," said Howard Jones, Mode2's managing director. Yet few communications agencies are supporting companies that need to communicate their sustainability efforts to a consumer base that is now demanding environmental efficiency and lower carbon footprints.

In addition to helping companies with CSR efforts and investor relations, Jones also cited internal education as an important area of emphasis, as companies grow to understand the power of an entire workforce spreading the right messages.

Mode2 is also targeting international and domestic clean-tech companies trying to penetrate the Asian market, which is expected to consume $287 billion in clean tech by 2015, Jones said. The agency will seek to work with not only large clean-tech companies in the wind, solar and waste fields, but also small innovators.

Jones asserted that the region lacks agencies and individuals with the knowledge and skills required to produce strong communications in this area. Mode2's other two principals, Fergus O'Rorke and Mike Dunn, both have experience in communications and in the sector, Jones said. In addition to résumés in commmunications, the two run cleanbiz.asia.

Jones has more than 30 years of experience in corporate communications, media and public relations agencies, including most recently as director of corporate communications for Juniper Networks. Prior to that he was director of operations for EBA Communications.
