Paul Grubb and Jeff Curtis start new agency in Bangkok

BANGKOK – Former chief creative officer for Publicis Thailand, Paul Grubb has partnered with former global CD for Cheil Worldwide, Jeff Curtis to start a new creative agency named Red Pill.

Prior to joining Publicis, Grubb was regional ECD for Lowe where he met Curtis, who was then creative director for Lowe Thailand before moving on to the post of regional CD for Lowe in 2005. Both have worked on award-winning campaigns including four yellow-pencil D&AD awards won by Grubb.

Describing the agency as “purely creative”, Grubb told Campaign Asia-Pacific, “We do one thing, and we do it brilliantly—and that’s offering creative solutions. We’re not about trying to offer every single marketing service.”

Most marketers, observed Grubb, are “deluged with strategy” and understand their brands thoroughly. “Most agencies just take a client’s strategy and retype it on stationery with the agency’s logo on the letterhead," he said. "What marketers are looking for are creative solutions.”

Grubb, who used to be a partner in London-based creative agency Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters before joining Lowe in 2005, explained that he missed the freedom to choose his clients. “We have the opportunity again to work diligently on a few good projects for certain clients that we enjoy working with.”

The self-funded startup opened its doors last week and is looking to sign on its first client.

“I know there are clients out there who will want what we offer, we just have to find them,” said Grubb adding that the agency was already in talks with a few prospective clients.
