This appointment, which took place 1 October, was to replace Peter Cowan, who has been appointed chairman and CEO of Unilever South Africa. He will be based in Manila.

Jawa noted that he was excited to be taking on the new role and looking forward to working in such a rapidly developing market.

“It is an extremely interesting time in the Philippines' FMCG sector,” he added. “It is witnessing fast economic growth in recent times and is a part of a very exciting region in the world. The growth in the middle class is opening up new opportunities and enabling us to bring an ever more innovative and compelling product portfolio to market.

Unilever has not announced a replacement for Jawa’s position.

Having worked at the company for more than 25 years, Jawa previously held a variety of executive roles in multiple markets, including senior vice president of marketing operations for Unilever’s Asia, Africa, Central & Eastern Europe region; regional category vice president, Asia, for laundry; as well as vice president of marketing for Unilever Vietnam.

He was appointed as the SVP, global marketing operations in August 2011 following a reorganisation of Unilever into eight market clusters and four categories.
