Taiwan 4A elects BBDO's Eddy Fu as chairman

TAIPEI - Taiwan Association of Advertising Business (Taiwan 4A) has elected Eddy Fu, CEO of BBDO Taiwan, as its new chairman, replacing Shirley Chou of STW Advertising.

Fu was elected by the association membership, which consists of 15 international agencies and 15 independent homegrown agencies, in late May. The chairmanship is for two years.

Fu said that one of the main objectives of the Taiwan 4A is to reinforce and improve quality among all 4A member agencies in Taiwan. "So when clients call for pitches, they know that 4A agencies have better quality,” he said.

As well as this, Fu says he would like to provide services that have common interests to all member agencies. He cited staff training as one potential example, given that not every agency can afford the time and resources involved.

He also aims to bring 4A agencies into colleges and schools to source talent and make better educational contributions to schools. “As most advertising courses are more textbook focused, we could get advertising professionals in the real world to share their experiences and knowledge with them. It is a good opportunity to bridge between colleges and the advertising industry.”

Fu says Taiwan's advertising industry is still suffering from the recent economic downturn. "The recession in Taiwan has started to slow down since last year, but it's still not in good shape.”

Reported in April, MEC Taiwan MD Vince Cheng was re-elected as chairman of Taiwan's Media Agency Association for 2011 to 12.
