"The Economist is pleased to announce the appointment of Edelman as our PR agency and we look forward to working with the team to carry out a series of insight-led, targeted, creative and strategic PR programmes," said Grace Hahn, circulation and group marketing director, Asia Pacific, the Economist Group.

The appointment was made after a competitive pitch earlier with undisclosed agencies, displacing the incumbent agency, the Consultancy.

Edelman Hong Kong is charged to handle media relations, not just in traditional media but also in the social media sphere, and "to cement the Economist's position as the qualitifed voice of reason for global economic trends and a thought leader across multiple stakeholders in Hong Kong."

The Economist is a popular weekly publication among top business executives, and is known for its quality content. Edelman recommended the client to reach out to other potential readers, especially university students and parents who hope to instill their youngsters with an interest in global affairs.

"We are excited and delighted to be appointed as the PR agency by The Economist. It is more than a weekly publication. It is a global current affairs and business media brand which differentiates itself with exceptional content and viewpoints," said Andrew Kirk, deputy MD, Edelman Hong Kong.

The Economist launched its new iPhone and IPad versions last November to suit digital savvy readers.
