Volkswagen appoints DDB Guoan as its AOR in China

BEIJING – DDB Guoan has been appointed by the Volkswagen Import Company in China (VICo) as its creative agency-of-record for its entire import business across China.

Volkswagen appoints DDB Guoan as its AOR in China

According to DDB, the account consists of the New Touareg, Phaeton, Scirocco, New Beetle, CC, Eos and R36 models. DDB Guoan's responsibilities will include ad campaign development for all ATL work, TVC, print, POSM and digital banners. The agency will also provide strategic input, including competitive analysis and integrated ideation for digital activation and events.

The win represents significant development for DDB Guoan, considering Volkswagen’s popularity in China, which is now the brand’s largest market worldwide.

“This new account will provide an opportunity for us to further develop our existing relationship with Volkswagen as it expands its import business,” noted Managing Director, Richard Tan. “In May 2010, we established a comprehensive through-the-line team to service the business out of Beijing.”

The VICo new business win represents the most recent and significant of 7 new accounts won by DDB Guoan, in the space of a mere 3 months. “It’s always fulfilling to see the great work and creativity that goes into a pitch result in a successful business win,” said Richard Tan. “This culmination of important new clients, ranging from auto and technology to real estate and selective FMCG, is very exciting for the team in the Beijing office.”

“We’re currently experiencing phenomenal growth with our Beijing operations, on the back of increasing our equity stake in this joint venture,” commented President and CEO of DDB China Group, Dick van Motman, from Cannes. “This significant win for DDB Guoan is encouraging for the entire group, which has experienced a number of successful pitches in recent months.”

DDB’s latest win consolidates its already close collaboration with Volkswagen. Last November, the auto company also awarded its Passat business in China to DDB Shanghai. DDB Shanghai currently works with Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW) on the Passat, Lavida and Tiguan models. Tribal DDB China, DDB Shanghai and DDB Guoan are also involved with the development of key projects with Volkswagen Group China (VGC).
