Sheena Liu

President
TVBS Media
Taiwan

The medium is the message. This fundamental truth has arguably been the theme of Sheena Liu’s career path and her impact on the media industry in Taiwan. As the president of TVBS, Liu has spearheaded the company’s digital shift, using her extensive experience across advertising, film, and media to create a unified vision. Upon her arrival at TVBS, Liu faced the challenge of leading a team with limited digital capabilities, but her leadership has aided in the company’s transformation into a major player in digital media.

Through the implementation of innovative strategies—including cross-department collaboration, OTT sales and AI—Liu has successfully integrated traditional media with digital technologies. These efforts have led to over 30% growth in business revenue, with digital revenues increasing by more than twofold. She further champions the next generation of media talent through initiatives like TVBS’ newcomer and screenwriting camps.

Beyond business achievements, Liu is a role model for leadership, with a focus on fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment. She restructured communication models at TVBS to ensure cross-department cooperation, empowering employees to grow. By introducing a fault-tolerant culture and focusing on employee development, she significantly boosted retention and morale. Her inclusive approach increased TVBS’ gender and age diversity, with women making up above 70% of leadership promotions.

Liu’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility has also been a cornerstone of her leadership. Through initiatives like TVBS GOOD, she successfully incorporated ESG principles into the company’s operations, raising awareness on critical issues like environmental sustainability and social care. These efforts have earned TVBS several prestigious awards, including the Asia Corporate Social Responsibility Award and the Harvard Business Review Digital Transformation Award.

Her work hasn’t gone unnoticed: Liu won the Outstanding Corporate Leadership Award for the second time at the APEA Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards in 2023, and TVBS was recognised with the Digital Transformation Award from Harvard Business Review. These accolades speak to her ability to not only lead digital transformation but to also guide TVBS towards a sustainable and profitable future.
