Mark Hoffman, president of CNBC, made the announcement on 6 December. He told staff the move will help to build greater cooperation and coordination between offices. "Different regions sometimes require unique strategies and tactics. But, by putting the teams together, we will be more effective as we make editorial and commercial decisions," he said.
Previously president and managing director of CNBC Asia-Pacific, Satpal Brainch has been tapped to lead the merger effort, as president of the new CNBC International. He will report directly to Hoffman.
"(Over) the last two and a half years, Sat has done an excellent job as President of CNBC in Asia-Pacific, growing the business, overseeing the building of a state-of-the-art facility at the Singapore Exchange, and establishing strong relationships in the region," Hoffman said.
Mick Buckley, who headed up CNBC Europe, Middle East and Africa, will depart the broadcaster at the end of this year.
