The new 24-hour Discovery Channel Tamil will add to Discovery Networks' existing roundup of channels in India – the flagship Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, and Discovery HD World.

From 15 August onwards, Discovery Channel Tamil will feature programmes from a variety of genres – adventure, survival, science, engineering, natural history, investigation, technology – catering to the preferences of native Tamil viewers.

The new channel will have advertising inventory independent from the rest of the group, allowing local Tamil Nadu advertisers to buy separate air-time on the network.

Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager of South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said the "viewership pattern in Tamil Nadu is contrasting from the rest of India and demands customised product offerings".

Programmes in the lineup include Swamp Brothers, Monsters Inside Me, How Do They Do It?, and Pacific Abyss.
