German retail giant Media Markt partners with Equinox for media

SHANGHAI - Media Markt, the leading German electronics retailer that opened its first Asia store in Shanghai two weeks ago, has appointed Equinox as its media agency partner.

Equniox won the media account after a competitive two-way pitch with other 4A media agencies earlier this year.

The Shanghai store, located on Huai Hai Road in Shanghai, takes up a sales area of 9,500 square meters. Media Markt's operations in China is done through a Guangdong-based US$200 million joint venture with Taiwan's Foxcoon technology group. Foxconn, the biggest OME manufacturer in the world, has a client portfolio that includes Apple.

Media Markt said China's electronics retail market is expected to hit US$209 billion in 2013. Its major competitors in the Mainland include local giants Gome and Suning, as well as American brand Best Buy.
