Hertz appoints ICON as PR partner for Australia and New Zealand

SYDNEY - Hertz Australia and New Zealand has appointed Sydney-based ICON International Communications as its new PR and communication agency, following a competitive pitch.

ICON was chosen for its response to the brief and its link with global PR firm Ketchum, as well as its strong experience within the travel category, according to the car rental firm.

The agency will handle the Hertz business in Australia and New Zealand, and work closely with the brand’s marketing team to deliver a strategic PR and communication programme, including stakeholder and media relations, internal communications, events and social media activity.

Chris Gray, ICON’s managing director, called the appointment a natural fit, particularly as ICON is the exclusive Australasia affiliate of Ketchum, which manages the PR for Hertz in the US and UK, and also serves as the lead PR agency for Hertz International.

ICON is an independent communications consultancy in Sydney and Singapore. In 2008, it signed an exclusive affiliate agreement with Ketchum, a public relations agency under Omnicom Group, to form a strategic alliance in Australia and Singapore to provide national, regional and global support to clients.

Hertz is the largest worldwide airport general use car rental brand, operating from over 8,800 locations in 150 countries, including more than 270 locations in Australia and New Zealand.
