8e currently has offices in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Joerg Tente, group managing director of 8e, said the group is now investing in upscaling its business from being a game distributor to becoming a game and app developer as well as a mobile marketing player.

He said, “We are looking forward to broadening the scope of our offerings, with gaming as the core driver, to all spheres of unique mobile platform development and servicing.”

Tente added that gamification and product-centric social media are "other interesting arenas we are keen to explore".

He said, “In this era of rapid digital media growth, there is an acute shortage of companies that can provide high-quality games, and an even smaller amount of those are able to customise games to meet the objectives of their clients.”

The company is already in partnership with three mobile telecoms companies in Malaysia, namely Maxis, Celcom and Digi, as well as brands Disney, Capcom and Digital Chocolate.

Stanley Lim, Southeast Asia regional manager at 8e, said market research showed that over half of 18 million Malaysian internet users are accessing the web via mobile technology.

He said, “It simply makes sense for us to have a bigger presence in Malaysia to lead the way when it comes to mobile content and services, as demand is growing at an exponential rate."
