Lau's new role at Travel Expert will involve expanding the independent tourist travel market to more exotic places for Hong Kong holidaymakers.

According to the company website, Travel Expert was founded in 1986 in Hong Kong, and has developed from a small family business into an individual travel package specialist enterprise. The company now has more than 50 outlets offering diversified travel products.

TVB celebrity and comedian Cho Lam Wong is the brand ambassador of Travel Expert, whose witty 25th anniversay ads campaigns project a younger brand image, appealing to independent travellers in particular.

Lau is a 30-year travel industry veteran in Hong Kong and sits on numerous Hong Kong travel industry advisory boards. She joined Hong Thai Travel as a junior clerk in 1978 and was appointed general manager in 1987.

At Hong Thai Travel, Lau was often the spokesperson for the company. One of her most memorable experiences involved the Manila hostage crisis in August 2010. Even though she had resigned from the company at that stage, she helped to comfort the victims’ families.

According to a news story in The Hong Kong Standard, Lau filed her resignation long before the tragedy and served out her final week appearing at many press conferences to provide the media with the latest developments.

After quitting her role at Hong Thai Travel, Lau took a break from the travel industry and went into teaching.
