TBWA and DDB await outcome of Tsingtao Beer pitch

SHANGHAI - Incumbent agencies TBWA and DDB are awaiting results of the creative pitch that Tsingtao beer (青岛啤酒) called in early April.

According to industry sources, Tsingtao also invited JWT and Publicis to the pitch, but each withdrew either due to client conflict or through the process of elimination.

The second round of the pitch finished in the second week of May. Agencies involved do not expect a third round. TBWA won most of the account in April 2012 after a five-way pitch against then-incumbent Ogilvy.

It handled the core TsingTao brand, as well as regional beer brands Chun Sheng, Hei Pi, Ao Gu Te, Huan Dong, Bing Chun, Wu Chun, Hans and Lao Shan was managed by TBWA. DDB held the Shan Shui business in 2013.

Tsingtao declined to comment.
