Petzinger's newly created role, will give him responsibility for overseeing the agency's roster of multinational clients, including Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Wyeth, Ikea, and Procter & Gamble. He will also be working to build new business in this sector.

He joins Leo Burnett Shangahi from DDB in Germany, where he was most recently global business director for four years. He directed the Volkswagen account across more than 30 markets. Over a significant career, he has also worked with BBDO New York, Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam, and StrawberryFrog, on brands including BMW, Coke Light, Heineken and Nike.

Johan Ostlund has succeeded Richard Dale, who left the agency in March, as chief planning officer. Ostlund most recently held the role of behavioural planning director at DDB Tokyo where he led the planning on all international accounts, including Volkswagen, Lipton, Reebok and Nikon.

Among the talents Ostlund brings to the role is an in-depth understanding of the McDonald’s account, with five year’s experience with the brand in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, the agency says.

Both recruits will report to Wei Wei Chen, chairman and CEO of Leo Burnett Shanghai. She commented that, "Leo Burnett Shanghai is lucky to have a stable of long-term, multinational clients that we've grown and developed with. I'm thrilled that a business leader like Stefan Petzinger will be able to help those brands find even greater success."
