Catch up on past people moves and business wins

Benjamin Joe, Meta’s vice president of Southeast Asia and emerging markets, has been promoted to regional VP for APAC. He will succeed Dan Neary who is stepping down after more than a decade. Joe has been with Meta for 14 years, previously holding positions including country director for Korea and most recently, VP for Southeast Asia and emerging markets. Prior to Meta, he worked at McKinsey and IBM. Joe will join Nicola Mendelsohn (head of global business group)’s leadership team, and will assume responsibilities in July, working closely with Neary to ensure a seamless transition.  Meanwhile, Sandhya Devanathan, vice president of India, will expand her responsibilities to oversee Southeast Asia.

Agnes Suen has joined Burson Hong Kong as senior director. Suen moved from Raffles Family Office, where she was head of marketing and communications. Prior to that, she was director of financial communications at Hill+Knowlton Strategies. 

Thinkerbell has decided to rebrand the agency into ‘O’Learybell’ for one day in honour of their number one and first ever employee, Emma O’Leary, head of culture, operations and people, who is leaving the business to become head of people at QT Hotels. 

Vinyl Group has made more redundancies this week, including its chief marketing officer Alli Galloway. Galloway shared the news through a LinkedIn post. “After nearly 20 years in the music industry, I’ve finally earned a badge I hadn’t collected yet: redundant. Turns out, it doesn’t come with a trophy… but it does come with a lot of reflection and gratitude.” Galloway had been with Vinyl Group for nearly four years, joining in 2021 from Warner Music Australia as head of audience and creative. She was promoted to CMO in 2023.

Bastion has appointed Madeleine Leonard as marketing manager, reporting to Bastion ANZ CEO, Cheuk Chiang. Most recently at Dentsu, Leonard played a pivotal part in driving internal and external communications, managing executive operations and delivering large-scale strategic employee initiatives across multi-market teams. 

Frasers Group has announced the launch of Elevate, the new retail media network powered by Frasers’ first-party data that helps brand partners connect with customers through highly personalised advertising. Frasers Group has partnered with Zitcha, an adaptive, unified retail media platform that empowers retailers to build and scale their unique retail media networks, to build and rollout the Group’s on-site, off-site and in-store media assets.

The Secret Little Agency (TSLA) has appointed Ng Li Ting as business director to further expand the agency’s growing earned media capabilities. Ng joins from DeVries Global, bringing over a decade of experience in public relations with a focus on brand reputation, culture-driven storytelling, and influencer marketing. In her new role, Ng will lead TSLA to integrate fame, PR, and all aspects of earned media communications planning into creative services.

Quantcast, a global advertising technology company, has appointed Jordan Khoo as vice president for the Asia-Pacific region. Under his new remit, Khoo will be responsible for leading Quantcast’s strategy and commercial operations across APAC from the company’s Singapore office. Most recently, Khoo served as managing director APAC at DoubleVerify, and previously as vice president at Sizmek.
 
We Are Social Singapore has promoted Daniel Foo to executive creative director. As part of his new role, he will also join the agency’s leadership team. He reports to Naiyen Wang, We Are Social’s managing director for Southeast Asia. Foo joined We Are Social in 2024 as creative director after three years client-side with ecommerce company Lazada. He had more than 15 years of experience working at agencies including BBH, Grey Group, JWT and McCann on clients across industries including tech, banking, tourism and retail.  
 
Michael Sweeney has been appointed as head of marketing at Spyrosoft,  an IT consulting company in Europe. Before that, Sweeney was most recently head of marketing solutions at Avenga in Australia. Prior to that, he served as marketing director of adtech and martech at Qinshit and head of marketing at Clearcode. 
 
Sumeer Mathur has joined McCann Worldgroup as chief strategy director for India. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Mathur was most recently chief strategy officer at Dentsu Creative before joining McCann. He also led the strategy team at Havas Group, Edelman and DDB Mudra prior to that. 

Bastion has acquired Daymark, a boutique corporate advisory firm, to further expand its corporate affairs capabilities. Founded 15 years ago by industry leaders John Fergusson and Richard Peters, Daymark has built a reputation advising senior leaders on complex communications challenges and assisting some of Australia’s most prominent organisations to navigate reputational risk and opportunity. Fergusson and Peters will lead the newly expanded Bastion Reputation corporate affairs practice. Peters will be based in Sydney, with Fergusson and the Daymark team joining Bastion’s Melbourne hub in Cremorne.

Princess Cruises has appointed 72andSunny as strategic creative agency to develop a local brand positioning and campaign that can drive brand familiarity, consideration and preference with a new generation of Australian consumers. The appointment adds to other recent new business wins for 72andSunny, including BIG W, AFL, tech unicorn, Deputy and Cadillac.  

Howatson+Company has been named creative agency of record for Australian Financial Review (AFR), effective immediately. Howatson+Company have been brought on to assist AFR in refining its brand to reflect its position in today’s fast-moving landscape, whilst staying true to their 70-year legacy. The agency’s remit includes brand strategy and creative.

Aleph, a global network specialising in media and payments innovation, has announced an expanded partnership with audio streaming giant Spotify to serve as Spotify’s advertising sales partner in over 80 markets, including Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. The collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies, which began in 2013. As part of the expanded deal, Aleph will leverage its services to support the monetisation of Spotify’s advertising inventory and facilitate access to a network of more than 20,000 advertisers.
The aim is to strengthen Spotify’s advertising reach in key global markets and enable advertisers to connect with Spotify’s extensive user base through targeted ad solutions.
 
Cartology, Woolworths' retail media arm, has appointed Robbie Lawson and Sam Way to newly created general manager roles under its new sales operating model. The model consolidates sales and support functions across four key verticals: everyday needs, food, agency, and New Zealand. Lawson will oversee the everyday needs portfolio, while Way will focus on the food category. Both will report to Tony Prentice, director of client partnerships and sales. Lawson brings nearly seven years of experience from Google and prior roles at Unilever, L’Oréal, and Mars Food. Way has 20 years of leadership positions at Nestlé and Coca-Cola, most recently serving as vice president of digital acceleration at Coca-Cola. These appointments align with Cartology’s efforts to enhance its client offerings and strengthen its presence in key retail sectors.
 
US chicken chain of restaurants Wingstop has appointed Hello as its full-service AOR for the Australian market, following a competitive pitch process. The agency will oversee the brand's launch across brand, creative, media and digital channels. The global fast-casual dining powerhouse has over 2,500 stores worldwide. 

B2B marketing and communications agency Mahlab has named Ben Williams as senior account director of Marketing Communications. Williams will lead global accounts in the industrial technology sector in his new role as part of Mahlab’s senior leadership team. Williams brings over 20 years of experience managing B2C, B2B, and B2E projects for high-profile organisations, including NAB, Asahi Beverages, Coles, RBS, Nike, and LVMH. His appointment reflects Mahlab’s focus on delivering strategic communications for complex global industries.
