United Airlines and Ink publish in-flight magazine

CHICAGO - United Airlines has partnered with London-based Ink Publishing for the production of its monthly in-flight magazine, Hemispheres.

United Airlines and Ink publish in-flight magazine
The deal, which sees Ink replace incumbent publisher Pace Communications, will result in a monthly print run of 350,000 that will reach a potential audience of 92 million travellers annually. According to data from the Official Airline Guide (OAG), United is the leading carrier in terms of seats between the US and Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul and Bangkok. It is also the only US carrier to operate directly between the US and Australia and Vietnam.

Jeffrey O’Rourke, Ink’s chief executive, explained that he would seek to “decommoditise” the product, by assigning a team of dedicated sales staff and applying “a different level of editorial values” to imbue a more contemporary and international character to the magazine.

Hemispheres’ advertising inventory last year totalled a reported $62 million. It has been in publication for sixteen years.
