In his new role Cummings will focus on the Philips brand, its communications and social media, and digital marketing across consumer lifestyle, lighting and healthcare. He will report directly to Harjit Gill, the company’s regional CEO.

“Indeed Damien Cummings is joining and succeeding me," Hesselink told Campaign Asia-Pacific. "I think we have found a strong candidate and I’m very confident that he will take the brand forward."

Cummings joins the Dutch multinational company on 1 February. Hesselink will stay in the region for a few months during the transition. He will be re-joining the global team in Amsterdam. Hesselink couldn't immediately confirm the details of his new role.

In November, Cummings left his post as regional marketing director at Samsung following a restructuring initiative at the Korean electronics manufacturer. He joined Samsung in August 2012.

Writing on his personal blog, Cummings said he went through a sudden change both professionally and personally. "For the last couple of months, I've taken time out to reassess and focus on what’s important in life – friends, family, being healthy, giving back to the community and sharing my knowledge."

Hesselink joined Philips in 2006 and was responsible for media relations in Amsterdam until 2010. He moved to Asia in the same year to manage internal and external communications and brand building efforts.
