Both MasterCard and McCann were keen to continue the ‘paper’ theme from the previous TVC with the Birds of Tokyo band in May, and Engine creative director Simon Robson was tasked with further exploring the graphic medium.
The 30-second TV spot promotes the latest gig of rock band Kasabian, in October at Melbourne's Docklands, wherein viewers can avail of tickets by using the Debit MasterCard.
Robson explains that for this commercial, "There was a dark, moody script which we had to tailor and adapt to the target youth demographic and this lead us to create a cool chain reaction effect throughout the whole spot.”
He continued, “We worked with the tones of paper and the creation of motifs and pieces to go with the voiceover that included numbered cubes, worms coming out of wood, and fake velvet blood."
McCann executive creative director Michael Raso said, “the way Engine tackled the aggressive cutting and tracking in worked extremely well and added great energy into the spot. It was a tricky TVC but Engine did a great job. It was also a big plus that they could take care of everything in house from storyboarding through production to post.”
