YouTube's top APAC ads: K-Pop 'West Side Story', tiny Familymart clerks, more

ASIA-PACIFIC - YouTube's just-released list of Asia-Pacific's 10 most popular ads of 2014 (so far) features four commercials from the region, plus two more from Asia-based global brands.

The Asian work on the list includes:

  • At No. 3: A South Korean take on West Side Story for Kolon Sport (above)
  • At No. 6: Petronas' annual Lunar New Year ad, 'Young hearts':

  • At No. 8: A too-cute piece for Familymart of Taiwan, titled 'Who makes the FamilyMart clerks smaller?':

  • At No. 9: A bizarre mascot chase from Japan's Softbank:

YouTube said the list represents the 10 ads that "resonated most" with viewers in the region. "The Leaderboard celebrates the brands and creatives that performed best with audiences across the region, through a combination of popularity (organic views) and promotion (paid views)," according to a press statement. Note that number of views listed on each video's YouTube page is a global number, so those don't match the order of the APAC top 10.

The rest of the APAC top 10 is as follows:

At No. 1: Samsung's Galaxy S5 introduction

At No. 2: The stunning "second a day" video from Save the Children UK—not to be missed.

At No. 4: Budweiser's 'Puppy love' Super Bowl ad

At No. 5: A Nike Super Bowl ad

At No. 7: SodaStream's Super Bowl ad

At No. 10: Sony's 'Details make the difference' for the Xperia Z2
