Adelaide reinforces space credentials

The South Australian capital wins national space research conference.

Adelaide reinforces space credentials

The Adelaide Convention Bureau has secured the 19th Australian Space Research Conference (ASRC), which will be hosted by Adelaide this coming September. The win comes off the back of delivering the high-profile International Aeronautical Conference (IAC) in 2017, and the announcement that Adelaide will be the home of Australia’s Space Agency.

The Bureau has directly targeted business events that fit the genre with many more in the pipeline. This is a continuation of its strategy to capitalise on major new infrastructure dedicated to key industries.

“This is one of many business events within the space and defence category that the Bureau will bring to South Australia in the years to come,” said Adelaide Convention Bureau CEO, Damien Kitto. “The legacies of these events, as was the legacy of the IAC, will continue to provide opportunities for innovation, investment and trade to South Australia.

“With the state government’s commitment and development of the Innovation Hub at Lot Fourteen, we look forward to promoting this exciting genre to the world as we have and will continue to do successfully within the Health Sciences arena off the back of the BioMed City development.”

ASRC organisers enjoyed a ‘Taste of Adelaide’ when they attended the Bureau’s annual Destination South Australia showcase event in 2018. The September 30 – October 2, 2019 conference will be held in conjunction with the South Australia Space Forum, convened by the South Australian Space Industry Centre.

This will be the thirteenth ASRC, which is jointly sponsored and organised by the National Committee for Space and Radio Science (NCSRS) and the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA), with the support of the Mars Society of Australia (MSA).

Both fundamental and applied research that applies to space science, engineering and technologies will be discussed at the conference, which is intended as the primary annual meeting for Australian researchers relating to space science and technology. It will bring space scientists, engineers, educators, and workers in industry, government and NGOs to Adelaide.
