Aktiv Digital scoops exclusive sales rights for Geeknet in the region

REGIONAL - Pan-regional online media sales company Aktiv Digital has been appointed as the exclusive sales partner for Geeknet in Southeast Asia and Greater China.

Aktiv Digital scoops exclusive sales rights for Geeknet in the region

Headquartered in California, Geeknet owns and operates six computer software and technology websites including online retailer Think Geek. The company, which reported a Q2 revenue of US$15.3 million, reaches more than seven million technology enthusiasts each month in Asia, delivering in excess of 30 million page views.

Matt Sutton, managing director at Aktiv Digital, said, “We are delighted to work with Geeknet as it allows us to deliver what technology advertisers have been asking for – a single site catchment area for the core geek audience with both integrated and creative brand executions as well on site cost per lead performance options.”

The parternship with Geeknet comes in the same period as Aktiv adds three new sales people in the Southeast Asia market and three more to come in China.

Aktiv’s channel manager Asim Rehman added that the company has been looking into expanding its technology portfolio for some time. “Geeknet now allows us to meet the requirements of Asia’s technology advertisers,” he said.

Geeknet's international commercial director David Wightman noted he was impressed with the scale of Aktiv’s sales teams across the region and association with large technology brands.

“Throughout the pitch process the leadership team at Atkiv displayed an extremely strong understanding of the region and the needs of advertisers and agencies,” said Wightman.

The websites in Geeknet's network include Source Forge, Slashdot, Think Geek, Geek.com, Ohloh, and Freshmeat.

Reported in August. BBC.com also appointed Aktiv Digital as its exclusive sales partner in the Philippines.
