Cute-macabre Melbourne Metro song is world's most viral video

MELBOURNE - The impossibly catchy "Dumbest Ways to Die" music video by McCann on behalf of Metro Melbourne has generated 15.3 million views, numerous covers and even a spoof website (not) offering cash for kidneys.

Cute-macabre Melbourne Metro song is world's most viral video

Launched on 16 November, the music video advocating safety around train stations has become the world's most viral video with 234,000 shares of the main video in the last 24 hours, picking up 3.2 million hits.

Cover versions include learning how to play the tune on the guitar and a version set to scenes from My Little Pony

A spoof site, CashForKidneys, also advocating train safety, has popped up and the real song, for sale on iTunes, is in the top 10 list of downloads for Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Money raised by sales of the song on iTunes will be reinvested into making stations even safer, according to McCann.
