ESPN Star Sports launches new channels for Hong Kong

HONG KONG - ESPN Star Sports is today rolling out two new channels for the Hong Kong market, ESPN High Definition (HD), and ESPNews.

They will be broadcast on Now TV, ESPN's exclusive partner in the special administrative region.

ESPN HD, on channel 672, offers Now TV subscribers a lineup of sports popular in Asia all in high definition. It includes F1 racing, Wimbledon tennis, the FA Cup, and major league baseball.

Meanwhile, ESPNews on now TV's channel 673, will feature sports news and highlights in a 24/7 format especially designed for Asian viewers. In particular, it will focus on news, scores, updates, highlights and exclusive live interviews from across the globe. 

ESPN Star Sports' managing director Manu Sawhney acknowledged that Hong Kong was a key pay-TV market for the sports content provider that has a high demand for quality sports programming. "These new multi-platform offerings signify ESPN Star Sports' commitment to continually raise the game by reaching out to more sports fans in Hong Kong and giving them an enhanced, comprehensive and engaging sports experience with our new expanded suite of services," he said.

In addition to the two new channels, ESPN Star Sports is looking to roll out a mobile ESPN live streaming service that will deliver full live streaming of sports content to enhance the existing mobile service to PCCW mobile customers. 

Adam Zecha, executive vice president, head of sales for Southeast Asia at ESPN Star Sports, points out that the launching of the new platforms in Hong Kong is in line with the company's commitment to deliver content to Hong Kong's users, enabling them to enjoy their favourite sports in a variety of platforms that suits their lifestyle.
