GroupM Vietnam CEO steps down; Andrew Meaden named interim CEO

HO CHI MINH - GroupM’s Vietnam CEO Tim Scott-Hunter is stepping down after two years in the role, and Andrew Meaden, GroupM’s regional director based in Hong Kong, will take over as interim CEO while a permanent replacement is identified.

"The business is in good shape overall, but good isn’t good enough in my book," said Mark Patterson, GroupM’s CEO, Asia-Pacific. “We have the opportunity to reinvigorate our business, set the bar even higher, inject some more energy and move things on further and faster, this is what our clients want and expect in a market like Vietnam."

Scott-Hunter’s previous roles were with Y&R, JWT, Ogilvy, Initiative, Zenith and MPG.

Patterson picked Meaden as interim CEO because of his experience in Vietnam. He has also been close to the business in recent years and is well equipped to play a ‘caretaker manager role’, he said. Meaden has worked as general manager for Y&R in Vietnam. He was previously Mindshare's CEO for North Asia and most recently regional director for GroupM. He joined GroupM in 2010.

Patterson stressed that he is looking for a hungry, energetic, commercially minded leader to take on the role permanently. “It is a cracking job at a fascinating time for the market and our business,” he said.

GroupM Vietnam was established 10 years ago and is the largest media agency group in Vietnam, with US$133 million in billings and a 35 per cent market share, according to RECMA.
