Jonathan Wong joins Al Jazeera as head of distribution in Asia

KUALA LUMPUR - Johnathan Wong, former director of channel distribution for Celestial Pictures, has signed on with Al Jazeera, as its new head of distribution for Asia.

Wong will be responsible for leading the Doha-based network’s efforts to continue expansion in Asia.  He joins Al Jazeera with more than 20 years of experience in Asia, Europe and North America.

As well as his role with Celestal Pictures, where he helped launch a 24-hour Chinese movie channel in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia, Wong has also served as associate vice president for Business Operations at Star Group. Most recently, he worked with NDS Group in various sales and marketing positions in Asia Pacific.

"I am very excited about taking on this new position," Wong said. "Al Jazeera is a fantastic organisation and I look forward to expanding its distribution efforts throughout Asia."

Roch Pellerin. director of global distribution for Al Jazeera, says he is equally excited about the new recruit. " Johnathan brings with him a wealth of television and media experience from across Asia and years of accomplishment as a cross-functional industry professional," he said.

Wong will be based in the network's regional hub of Kuala Lumpur.
