The first year of this annual programme attracted 30 applicants from leading universities in Indonesia. The winner, Dendy Nugraha, a recent graduate from Universitas Parahyangan, is entitled to a three-month internship with the opportunity to be hired as a permanent staff member at Maverick.

The Recruit was a three-round competition, in which the candidates were required to showcase creative writing skills, thinking skills and to present a proposal before the board of management and guest judges Bagdja Hidayat, senior editor from influential publication Tempo, and Daisy Primayanti, Freeport Indonesia’s head of corporate communications.

“Communication is a growing industry in Indonesia as more companies are now aware that they need to be savvier in communicating with their stakeholders for their businesses to thrive,” said Nur Shilla Christianto, vice-president at Maverick.

“In regards to manpower, there is more demand than supply in the market, and this poses a great challenge for us in the industry," she said. "Hence the launch of The Recruit, in which we invited fresh graduates to submit their application and proposal utilising popular social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and SlideShare."

The programme is a collaboration between Maverick and three leading Indonesian universities, including Universitas Paramadina, STIKOM The London School of Public Relations Jakarta and Tarumanegara University.
