Based in Beijing and reporting to Rupert McPetrie, CEO of MediaCom China, Petermann will be tasked with elevating the overall quality of the agency’s “marketing-focused, insights-fuelled, strategic thinking” to inspire recommendations and output for clients.
Working alongside Fabian Kietzmann, MediaCom’s chief digital officer, he will help develop the strategic thinking and knowledge of all digital media, particularly emerging platforms and new technologies.
In a statement, McPetrie said the team is looking forward to benefitting from Petermann’s “extensive knowledge and experience.”
“He has a unique energy and background that will both complement our leadership team and drive our strategic offering forward,” he added.
Petermann’s industry experience spans 25 years, with stints at an array of agencies including Carat, Leo Burnett, Dentsu Amsterdam and Lowe/Lintas.
“The opportunities and challenges [in China] are enormous, especially for international brands," he said. "What task could be more exciting for a strategist?”
