Rivals Bloomberg TV and CNBC launch local initiatives

HONG KONG/ BANGKOK – Bloomberg TV and CNBC Asia-Pacific both launched local initiatives last week as they compete to be the region’s leading business and financial news channel.

Bloomberg TV debuted two daily programmes, produced in and for the region.

Airing from 7-9am Hong Kong time is Asia: First Up hosted by Susan Li, followed by On The Move Asia anchored by Rishaad Salamat from 9-11am. A few weeks ago Bloomberg TV also launched On The Move with Francine Lacqua, airing daily from 3-4pm, produced out of London.

And last week saw CNBC Asia Pacific take its flagship programme, Squawk Box, on the road to Thailand for the first time.

Squawk Box has previously gone on the Road to Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and New Zealand.

To kick-start Squawk on the Road Thailand, CNBC held an exclusive, invitation only, Power Breakfast in Bangkok on 20 September, joined by prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and finance minister of Thailand Korn Chatikavanij. The event was held at the Shangri-la Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand with more than 150 VIP's from business, government and media attending.
