BEIJING - Wu Hong (pictured), founder and president of Trends Media Group, lost his fight against pancreatic cancer on 20 August.

He was 46 years old.

In 1993, Wu launched Trends, the first fashion magazine in China, which created a market place for fashion and lifestyle titles for Chinese readers. Trends subsequently launched Esquire and Cosmopolitan, among others. The publisher has since become a brand-led, multiplatform media group in China.  

Shirley Zhang, executive publisher and GM of Trends Media Group, said: “Wu was not only a passionate and enthusiastic man, but also an open-minded and dynamic boss and entrepreneur. He has done a lot for the luxury and lifestyle media in China.”

“His passing away is a great loss to Trends Media Group, as well as a great loss to Chinese magazine publishing and media and fashion industry,” said a statement from the Group.

One of Wu’s major contributions was bringing innovative thinking to the magazine sector. He was honoured as a leader and explorer in the industry and elected as vice-president of the China Magazine Association in 2007.

Wu’s funeral service will be held on 26 August in Beijing.
