The retail destination will host Elephant Parade Singapore 2011, an open-air art exhibition dedicated to saving the Asian elephant, at VivoCity’s Sky Park and The Plaza from 11 November to 6 January.

Some 25 life-sized elephant sculptures will be showcased, designed by celebrities and artists such as Rupert Grint, a cast member of the Harry Potter movie series and celebrity chef Bobby Chin.

Each elephant sculpture would then be auctioned off and part of all the proceeds will be donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation and the conservation fund of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

Chang Yeng Cheong, general manager of VivoCity, said, “The festive season has always been a special time for VivoCity; this year we are proud and honoured to be able to support a worthy cause as we celebrate our fifth anniversary. We would like take this opportunity to invite the public to visit VivoCity and participate in the activities organised to create higher awareness for the need to help Asian elephants.”

VivoCity would also be organising “The Largest Display of Hand-Painted Elephants” on 19 November. To make its entry in the Singapore Book of Records, this event would involve participants of all ages to paint their very own elephant sculptures simultaneously before putting them together on stage to form the largest squad of hand-painted elephants.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to help children from low-income families to pay for basic daily school-related expenses.

For shoppers, they can help to spread awareness of Asian elephant conservation with the shopping mall’s elephant-themed Christmas e-card, with their photo and personalised holiday greeting at VivoCity’s website.

They can also win prizes by participating in the photo contest on VivoCity’s Facebook page. They just need to take a photo of themselves with any of the twenty-five elephant sculptures and upload their entries with a caption on their selected elephants on VivoCity’s Facebook page.
