Vizeum China survives seven-year itch, retains Beijing Mobile’s media account

Amei Zheng (郑鸿梅), managing director of Vizeum China, told Campaign Asia-Pacific that Beijing Mobile calls a pitch every one or two years. The latest media pitch was launched in September, with three agencies involved: Vizeum, UM McCann and a large local media agency.

"We successfully defended [the account] through the collaboration and efforts of a stable core team and a deep understanding of Beijing Mobile’s business," Zheng said.

Vizeum China will continue to be responsible for Beijing Mobile’s media planning and buying business, while the client uses Cheil China and Guangdong Advertising as creative agency partners, and ZenithOptimedia takes care of China Mobile’s national media planning business.

According to a Bloomberg news article on 23 October, China Mobile, the world’s biggest phone company by subscribers, increased its third-quarter profit as handset subsidies helped attract data users to its high-speed network. Net income climbed 1.3 percent to 31.1 billion yuan (US$5 billion), from 30.7 billion yuan a year earlier, according to figures derived from nine-month data.

Reported in October, as a value-added service to lure young music lovers, China Mobile Hong Kong has partnered with Hong Kong app developer Soliton to launch an online music service, 'CMHK Soliton Let’s Play'.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor has chosen Vizeum China and Vizeum Taiwan to be their mainland media agency for the launch of a baijiu liquor product in China this month.

Vizeum China has previously worked on the Snow Beer account in China.
