The Hong Kong debut of the general entertainment network, which will be carried on Now TV’s channel 530, is the latest stage of Warner’s rollout of branded television content throughout seven Asian territories including Singapore, Indonesia and Taiwan.
Malcolm Dudley-Smith, executive vice president of Warner Bros International Branded Services, says that Hong Kong is an important part of the WarnerTV Asia Pacific strategy. Hong Kong’s Now TV subscribers represent a significant market, he added, and the company is looking to expand its presence in the region.
Modeled after the Warner Channel in Latin America, the Warner TV will carry content developed and programmed by Warner Bros. including the Hong Kong broadcast premieres of season five of The Closer, season three of comedy The Big Bang Theory and new drama series Nikita.
Janice Lee, PCCW’s managing director of TV and new media, credited the launch of Warner TV on Now TV with enhancing the breadth of the network’s offerings. Now TV subscribers will have access to Warner programming across the company’s on demand, mobile and broadband services, she said.
