Young global leaders say Facebook will ultimately be eclisped by Google

ZURICH – A live poll at the One Young World 2011 summit currently being held in Switzerland found that for the world’s young leaders, Facebook was the most influential social media platform (61 per cent) with Twitter (34 per cent) in second place.

Delegates picked Facebook as today's influencer, Google as tomorrow's.

However, when asked which service would dominate the future, 68 per cent chose Google and only 21 per cent chose Facebook.

Over 700 delegates from across the world including 89 from Asia and 38 from Australia were polled in the survey.

The delegates also presented a picture of future media consumption with 87 per cent saying they now consume their news online through social media and digital news channels. Only 13 per cent prefer print publications.

In Asia, 57 per cent said they prefer to track news via social media.

“One Young World delegates are exceptionally adept at using digital technology.  Their vote tipping Google suggests that Facebook is far from home free in the struggle to dominate the Internet,” says Kate Robertson, co-founder of One Young World.
