ZenithOptimedia gains Wing On Travel's $20m media business

HONG KONG - Wing On Travel has changed its media agency partner from long-term incumbent PHD to ZenithOptimedia Hong Kong, effective from 1 January.

ZenithOptimedia gains Wing On Travel's $20m media business

According to admanGo, the monitored media adspend of Hong Kong-listed Wing On Travel in 2012 was US$20 million.

Wing On Travel called for a tender in December, involving ZenithOptimedia, PHD and one other undisclosed agency. The brand handles its creative in-house.

PHD has been working on the account for seven years.

This is the first travel-agency client for ZenithOptimedia's Hong Kong office. A spokesperson told Campaign Asia-Pacific that the client was impressed by the agency's digital capabilities and the extensive airline accounts in its client portfolio, including global clients such as Emirates and British Airways, as well as the regional account of Qantas.

China and Southeast Asia are major travel markets for Wing On Travel. However, the company is also expanding into new markets such as Russia and South America, as well the growing potential of cruise travel, in line with the scheduled opening of the Hong Kong's new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in mid-2013.

Wing On Travel has been a household-name travel company in Hong Kong since 1964. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ctrip.com International, an online travel service provider in China that bought a 90 per cent stake in Wing On Travel in 2010 and purchased the rest of the company in 2012.
